Fine. I adapted. I paid my way through college with three part-time jobs and student loans. Then I bootstrapped my startup from my tiny apartment, living off instant noodles and whatever was on sale that week.<\/p>\n

The audacity was so thick I could taste it. I stood up. My hands were trembling, not from fear, but from pure rage.\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019re right,\u201d<\/b>\u00a0I said.\u00a0\u201cYou taught me the most important lesson of my life.\u201d<\/b>\u00a0They smiled, expecting a \u2018Yes.\u2019\u00a0\u201cYou taught me that if you want a better life, you have to do it yourself.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

Their smiles dropped.\u00a0\u201cSo, if you want that condo in Florida,\u201d<\/b>\u00a0I continued, walking to the door and opening it wide,\u00a0\u201cI suggest you figure it out. Just like I had to.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n
