I stood up immediately and followed her down the narrow aisle of the plane. My mind was racing. It was her first period, and I knew she was already embarrassed about it. The last thing I wanted was for her to feel alone.<\/p>\n

The flight attendant gently knocked on the bathroom door.<\/p>\n

\u201cHoney,\u201d she said softly, \u201cyour dad is here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The door opened just a little, and my daughter peeked out. Her eyes were red like she\u2019d been crying.<\/p>\n

I stepped closer. \u201cHey, kiddo. It\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

My daughter slowly opened the door a bit more and whispered, \u201cI didn\u2019t know it would happen today\u2026 and I thought everyone would notice.\u201d<\/p>\n

She managed a small smile.<\/p>\n

The flight attendant added softly, \u201cAnd for the record, your dad is pretty amazing. Most dads wouldn\u2019t even think to carry emergency pads.\u201d<\/p>\n

My daughter looked at me with surprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou carry them?\u201d<\/p>\n

I shrugged. \u201cYour mom told me years ago that one day you might need one when she\u2019s not around. So I figured I\u2019d be ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

For a moment she just stared at me\u2026 then suddenly wrapped her arms around me.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks, Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n

When we returned to our seats a few minutes later, she looked a little embarrassed but much calmer.<\/p>\n

As the plane continued through the clouds, she leaned her head on my shoulder and whispered something that made my chest tighten with emotion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really glad you\u2019re my dad.\u201d<\/p>\n
