…my face was all over the screen.
My stomach dropped.
There was security footage from the restaurant showing me taking money from my own wallet and handing it to the woman. For a second, I thought I was about to get fired for giving away food or breaking some company rule.
But before my boss could speak, the woman stood up with tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry for causing trouble,” she said softly. “But I had to find him.”
She explained that her husband had passed away months earlier, and she had lost her job the week before I delivered that pizza. That night, she and her children hadn’t eaten in two days. The twenty dollars I gave her bought groceries, diapers, and enough food to survive the weekend.
Then she pulled out a folded piece of paper and handed it to me.
It was a job offer.
Confused, I looked at my boss. He smiled for the first time since I walked in.
The woman’s brother owned a successful construction company in town. After hearing what happened, he wanted to meet the “kid who gave away his last twenty dollars.” They were offering me a full-time position with better pay, health insurance for my mom, and help paying for college classes at night.
I stood there speechless.
Before leaving, the woman hugged me tightly and whispered, “You saved my children that night. Now God is finding a way to save you too.”
Years later, I still remember that rainy night whenever life gets hard.
Because sometimes the smallest act of kindness returns in ways you never expect.
