Five minutes later, the flight attendant came over and said, âSir, your daughterâŠâ
My heart dropped.
ââŠsheâs okay, but she seems really scared. Could you come with me?â
I stood up immediately and followed her down the narrow aisle of the plane. My mind was racing. It was her first period, and I knew she was already embarrassed about it. The last thing I wanted was for her to feel alone.
The flight attendant gently knocked on the bathroom door.
âHoney,â she said softly, âyour dad is here.â
The door opened just a little, and my daughter peeked out. Her eyes were red like sheâd been crying.
âDadâŠâ she whispered.
I stepped closer. âHey, kiddo. Itâs okay.â
She looked down at the floor. âI think I messed everything up.â
The flight attendant handed me a small bag. âWe brought some extra supplies,â she said kindly. âJust in case.â
I smiled gratefully. âThank you.â
My daughter slowly opened the door a bit more and whispered, âI didnât know it would happen today⊠and I thought everyone would notice.â
I crouched slightly so we were eye to eye.
âListen,â I said gently. âNothing is messed up. This is normal. It happens to millions of girls every day.â
She sniffled. âReally?â
âReally. And you handled it like a champ.â
She managed a small smile.
The flight attendant added softly, âAnd for the record, your dad is pretty amazing. Most dads wouldnât even think to carry emergency pads.â
My daughter looked at me with surprise.
âYou carry them?â
I shrugged. âYour mom told me years ago that one day you might need one when sheâs not around. So I figured Iâd be ready.â
For a moment she just stared at me⊠then suddenly wrapped her arms around me.
âThanks, Dad.â
When we returned to our seats a few minutes later, she looked a little embarrassed but much calmer.
As the plane continued through the clouds, she leaned her head on my shoulder and whispered something that made my chest tighten with emotion.
âIâm really glad youâre my dad.â
And in that moment, I realized something simple but powerfulâ
Sometimes the smallest preparations become the biggest acts of love.Â
